Braces????

braces for the most part are optional. If u have an overbite and dont get braces what would happen wen u get older?? are braces for overbites just for looks?

Teeth are designed to occlude (that's dentist talk for "bite together") in a certain way. if you have an overbite, the teeth don't bite together. Aside from looks, long term, if your teeth don't bite together properly, they could be more likely to fracture or be more likely to have gum problems.





That said, a lot of people get by just fine with an overbite, and have no major problems later in life.





Only your orthodontist can really tell you, since they've examined your teeth. If you're still not sure, go back to your general (ie, "regular") dentist and ask him or her to tell you "what's the worst that could hapeen if i DONT get the braces?" and then go from there.

Reply:Braces aren't necessarily just for looks. If your overbite is severe, it could cause irregular wear on your teeth, headaches, jaw problems, etc.

Reply:well i have an overbite and got braces a year ago. i really wanted to get rid of the overbite bcuz ppl were making fun of my overbite. i dont think anything would happen if you didnt get them, if you dont have to or want to get them dont bcuz braces SUCK!

Braces r mostly for straighting teeth, overbites, and prevent joint pains in the jaw like i have!


I visited the orthodonist 5 weeks ago and they said braces prevent and help joint pains....in other words when bite down on somthing your jaw pops!


But yes it does help overbites and for looks well not really many people want them!
Reply:If the overbite is not severe, you may get it fixed with a retainer sort-of that you would wear at night. I got mine fixed in about 6 mos., and lost some weight because I was so sore to eat during the day when I wasn't wearing it. Good luck .
