Braces....?

im getting braces tomorrow and i wonder, do they put me to sleep or am i awake as they put the braces on? And does it hurt during the procedure?

Quite unfortunately, I had braces for five years. This is not the norm, so you definitely shouldn't expect to have them that long, but if anything it definitely made me experienced with braces and whatnot. The process of getting braces on is not painful, and not dangerous, so you won't be put to sleep. You will feel slightly awkward and uncomfortable because you won't be used to the bits of metal against your teeth or rubbing against the inside of your mouth. However, there is a wire that is fed through the brackets (the little metal things glued to your teeth), which you may not get right away. When this is tightened or first put in, your mouth will get a little sore, but it's only for a day or two and it's nothing that some Advil or Ibuprofin and avoiding chewy/hard foods for a day can't fix. I was really nervous to get my braces on when I got them, but there's really nothing to be worried about, I promise. The worst part of it is getting food stuck in them, really.

Reply:No they do not put you to sleep. At times when they adjust the braces it is uncomfortable, but no real pain.

Reply:No, you're wide awake and you feel no pain. It's basically like 45 minutes of you sitting in the chair and the doc doing their thing. You might be annoyed with having your mouth open for a long period of time, but they use those mouth openers so it'll be fine. Don't worry, it'll be fine.
Reply:I've got braces, they DO NOT hurt AT ALL when they out them on but the brackets do scrape your lips and stuff though...it feels a bit tight when they get out on but after like, the firstweek it feels JUST RIGHT.





They didn't put me to sleep when they put mine on. i'ts not that much of a biggie. Just relax ur jaw or else they might have to use more energy (it might hurt).





Eat bananas and yoghurt afterwards. Porridge or congee.





Something soft. Don't rub your tonge against them too much or else that will make your tounge hurt.





Do something you enjoy, take's the pain off in the first few days, you know?





Remember to brush your teeth loads though, otherwise it's realy easy to get cavities...

Reply:you are awake but it doesnt hurt at all sometimes just presure on your teeth dont be scared i just got braces the 11th and they arent even hurting anymore because they are sore for a lil bit
