Braces??????????

im 17 will braces hurt i have a crooked overbite will i be able to eat anything i want and play sports and how do they get put on also will i get them off before graduation

Braces??????????
i had braces for 2 years and got themwhen i was 14...yes they hurt a lot when ou first get them on. thats the wost of it...your teeth are sensitive and you arent used to that kind of pain...aleve or tylenol help, bust he best thing is sleep...it kind of hurts when you rush them and it really hurts when youbite down...youll probably have to stick to soups and soft foods for a few days...it hurts every month when you get them tightened too, but u get used to it...lasts for like 3 days after each tightening...after those few days, you can eat whatever you want, but you'll have to take good care of your teeth...brush and FLOSS often to make sure that u don't get like nasty rings on your teeth...gross!!...you can totally play sports or do whatever you want...they're like contacts for your teeth, lol...

as for how they get put on, they glue these lil metal things with hooks on them directly to your teeth...they put big metal rings on your back teeth to hold in the wire...that hurts becuz they like shove it onto your tooth and it hes to fit tight...lots of ouchy pressure...they then stick a wire in they spaces in the lil things they glued to your teeth and rap it around a hook on your back teeth...then they put lil colored rubber bands on the outside of the wire to stop the wire from coming off...you get to pick the color...after that they have you rinse your mouth and youre good to go....

when u get them tightened every month, they take off the bands and the old wire and give you a new wire to fit the postion your teeth have moved to...then you pick new bands and they put them on...

it all sounds super painful, and i won't lie, its not fun, but it is soooooo worth it when you see your gorgeous smile in the mirror for the first time...i dont regret a bit of it...

if your problems are minor, u can get braces off in as lil as 6 months, but most go around 2 years...i don't know if you graduate this year or next, but chances for getting them off by may are slim to none because not much happens in the first couple months...i wish you luck with that tho

hope i helped and i hope it all works out for you

ps: when chosing band colors, dont do yellow orange or red because they all make your teeth look yellow...lights pinks and purples are the best
Reply:i have em - they only hurt after you get them and get them tightend- you cant eat much during that time - i ate grits, soup, and stuff like that- they dont bug sports much - i dont notice them unless they have been tightened and stuff
Reply:dont worry i have braces and i eat EVERYTHING
Reply:it depends on how crooked ur teeth are. You cant eat certain things like nuts, caramel, hard stuff, and different types of candy. u do get stuff stuck in ur teeth 2. i had braces for a year and my teeth werent that crooked
Reply:braces suck...get invisiline

you will probably have your braces on for graduation...if u get invisline no one notices that you have braces
Reply:Once you first get them on, they will be pretty sore for about 2 days or so. Then the pain goes away and usually they will only get sore every time you go in to get them tightened. I couldn't tell you how long you will have them on. Ask your dentist, they should tell you. When I had them I tried not to eat any sugar or anything crunchy, though I did sometimes without any harm coming to my braces. You can still do everything you want to do, you just need to be more careful is all.
Reply:I'm 14 and i got braces about a monthish ago.

Braces will hurt the first night the worst but they will hurt for a few days or a week but after that you will be fine and wont even notice them. While they hurt you can just eatthings like jello yogurt and sometimes spaghetti. haha.

I just got mine not long ago and i play basketball. I havent had to play with them yet but the orthodontist said i sould get a cover thing just for when i play any contact sport so yeah...

i have mine for 18 months but it depends because everyones time is different.

braces can get kind of annoying sometimes but youll have straight teeth at the end!

:]]

hope i helped and good luck!
Reply:there not that bad there certain food restrictions and the hurt when u first get them for a few days and afterwords when u get them tightened but ive gotten used to that to so they dont even bother me also if your worried about how they look the have clear and porcilin ones. o yeahh and when you play certain sports you may have to wear a mouth guard.
Reply:Braces don't really hurt, but they will be sore anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. You cannot eat anything you want. At first you will be on very soft foods it is just about impossible to chew anything at first. Just eat pudding, jello, soft soup, ice cream, mashed potatoes, etc. Then eventually you can go back to what you normally eat, just avoid sticky candy like caramel. You can play sports no problem. It depends how crooked they are if they come off before graduation.
Reply:Your braces WILL hurt the first week or so, pain is more severe the worse your teeth situation is..i mean, the more crooked they are, the msot moving is needed, therefore more tension in your mouth causing more pain...

the first week of eating should be very soft foods, hard foods are almost impossible to eat at this stage. after that you can pretty much go back to regular eating habits EXCEPT chewy candies and try to cut down on sugary things..and make sure you floss!!

you can play sports...

they put them on with a special glue. then they glue each open bracket to each of your teeth and then add the wires and close the brackets, causing a lot of tention, this is what pulls your teeth togehter, every other appointment will change your wire and make it even tighter. eventually your teeth will hurt less after every appojntment as your teeth are repositioning themselves

if you are graduating this year like me, then no you shouldnt have them off. if you teeth are REALLY crooked id give it three or four years....
Reply:1. Of Course you can eat. Some people have them on for year and years

2. They do not get in the way of sports, you might want to wear a mouth guard though

3. That put glue on a bracket and sticks them on.

4. It depends, and orthodontist could tell you better
Reply:if your teeth are really messed up than theyll be there for a while
Reply:The day after you get braces it hurts to eat. Any other time it only hurts when you get them tightened. If you graduate in June of this year you will not get them off before them, but if you graduate next year there is a very good chance of getting them off as long as you take good care of them. Wear your rubberbands when you get them or it will take longer for them to get strait.
