Braces????

What are extenders? Not an expander. i have to get braces soon but first I have to get extenders? What are they , where do they put them in your mouth, how long do I have to wear them and will they effect my speech?

I wore spacers for 5 days about two weeks ago.


I am now in braces.


Spacers are put in between your molars to make


space for bands, peices of metal wrapped around your molars.


They're very quick to get put in. It's basically a tiny rubber band.


But if you have crooked teeth they can be very painful, like mine were.


They don't affect your speech, but your bite will feel...bouncy or boingy for a while.


You can get through it though.
Reply:You may be referring to what are called Spacers possibly. All they do is form a space in between your teeth well certain teeth. I had them on my molars. They were painless and I wore them for 5 days prior. They didn't affect me in anyway.
Reply:Referring to the answer above, if they are spacers they will go between your molars and will stay there until you get your braces, usually a couple of days. They really help with the soreness caused by braces. Motrin helps a lot and soft cold foods too. They wont do anything to your speech and you cant even see them when you smile.
