Braces??????????????????

I've had braces for a few years now and today my orthodontist put all sorts of new things onto my braces. I've also got these elastic bands put on. does this mean next time i go to see my orthodontist, she'll take my braces out?

Reply:No, but it means you're in the final stages of your braces and they might come off soon.
Reply:It's not necessarily true that you're at the end of your treatment. I got bands 2 weeks ago and I still have 2 years to wear mine.

Reply:No, that's not always what it means. I have them, and I got bands, too, about 6 months ago, and my braces are coming off in about 2 months, so it really doesn't have to do with how soon they are coming off. Your orthodontist should be keeping you informed on what he/she is doing and when things are coming off or going on. If you really want to know, call your orthodontist's office.
Reply:I've had elastic bands put on my two front teeth, and no it does not mean that you will be taken them off soon it means that the doctor wants to put more pressure on the teeth that are more stubborn to move. He is in essence putting on more pressure than what the braces can put out. Yes they will hurt if you touch your teeth, but look on the bright side a bright smile will be in your future even though it might feel like torture. I think i just made a rhyme. Before you take your braces out the doctor will do a casting of your teeth to physically see all the teeth in their new positions, he'll also take a ruler and measure your teeth for retainers and ask you to pay for them. That's basically how you know your getting your braces out.
Reply:No this doesn't mean that you will get your braces off the very next time you go to the ortho but they will help move your teeth faster so you will be able to get them off sooner than if you weren't wearing the bands and stuff.
Reply:the elastic bands that you have are to move your jaw foward, your orthodontist should and probably will tell you a couple appointments before you get your braces off.

Reply:Yeh she would tell you when she would take them out as you'd need to book a longer appointment.





And it doesnt hurt. I had mine done about 4 weeks ago and didnt even know he was taking them out at that point. it just feel weird afterwards.
