Braces....?

im getting braces pretty soon. im having my tests this week like the check-ups. and i have a feeling they'll have to pull some teeth off. does it hurt? im sure it does, but like how painful? and for the braces, i know it doesn't hurt when they put it, but how about after? can anyone describe the pain?

haha..so much questions..but please answer!! :)) thankie :)

Braces....?
Tooth extractions are sore for a while after, but they numb up your mouth completely beforehand so it doesn't hurt.

When you get braces on, it will hurt a lot for the first 3-6 days. The inside of your mouth will have to get used to the braces being on there, and your teeth and jaws will have to deal with a whole new kind of pressure. After that, it's really no problem.

When you get adjustments, there will be some soreness afterwards. In my case, I'm usually fine for about six hours after the adjustment, and then it hurts for the next two days. It's pressure and soreness. Your teeth will be really really really sensitive to any pressure at all. I end up eating nothing but mashed potatoes and oatmeal right after an adjustment. After that, you're fine for the next six weeks.
Reply:well 9i have never had braces and i most likely never wqill cause my teeth are really strait but when you get ur teeth pulled to tell you the truth no it DOESNT hurt at all cause they numb it so much! lol =) good luck!
Reply:If they have to pull a tooth, they will give you something and you won't feel a thing. If you feel anything from wearing braces it will be a dis-comfort not a pain. Your dentist will make adjustments so it will not be a problem. Don't worry.
Reply:When they pull teeth, they give you something that numbs it and you won't feel a thing. If your teeth are very close together they will put spacers in-between your teeth. This is painful. But you can get rid of the pain with ibuprofen. Once the braces are on, you should not have too much pain, every once in a while after a visit to the orthodontist and they tighten the braces up you may have a little pain, but I think that you will find that the little bit of pain that you experience is well worth it! Your teeth will be beautiful in the end. I wish you the best!
Reply:I had to get extractions, and the initial surgery didn't hurt, but afterwards I could barely walk I was in so much pain, it also made me very thirsty. I couldn't take the medicine until 4 hours after surgery due to the medicine used to perform the surgery so I was in pain...but after a day you won't even feel it...and if you do, atleast you can say you didn't share my fate and get them taken out the day before Thanksgiving. Braces don't hurt until 1-2 hours after getting them on and then it feels like someone is pushing on your teeth, then a couple hours later it really hurts. It hurts to eat, drink,do anything lol. It lasts about 2 days, and then whenever you get them tightened it'll be sore for a couple hours afterwards.
Reply:When they put on the braces it doesn't really hurt, just alot of pressure and tension when they are pulling. It will be unconfortable when you get out of the ortho. The wires inside your mouth can sometimes cut your lips. This can be helped with numbing ointment and wax. Also since your teeth are being pulled into position it will cause them to be sore for a few days. It will also be sore every check up, due to the adjusting and pulling that will occur. It is nothing unbearable...and in the end a million dollar smile is worth it. Don't sweat it you'll do fine! :)
Reply:they pull off some teeth only if they find it congested...they do inject u b4 pulling them out(i once had it done and i could not feel my own lips.but the injection will of course not be very pleasant as they will be inserting a needle in ur mouth)and the braces will hurt for a while until u get used to u

abt 4-5 days the metal will rub against ur mouth lining and it will feel raw.....but later u will totally get used to it..but the chk-ups where the doc tightens is a BIG pain!!!u will be counting off the days till they remove it ....but believe me it really helps...i could not believe a couple of strings running along ur teeth can actually make them look good!!!

anyway good luck :D

Reply:no i have had braces and having teeth out doesnt hurt cuz i got scared but was fine.its like you can just feel the tugging. Braces dont hurt so chill and relax!!good look:-)
Reply:I just got braces put on 5 days ago and so far it hasn't been too bad. As far as the pain, I haven't experienced any. The braces have tore up the inside of my mouth though!! Be sure to get orthodontic wax to help out with that, its been a life saver for me.
Reply:i just got braces on this morning. and they hurt like no other. when you get them on it just feels like nothing...no pain. but when they put my colors on then i could feel some pressure on my teeth but it wasn't THAT painful. and for the first hour..no pain. but then after a few hours my teeth felt like someone pinched them and wouldn't let go. i know that sounds weird but its true. and i still feel it, it hurts so much that i feel like i want to slide my braces off so the pressure can be gone! when you get them on, you want to take 2 pills of advil or whatever, not one.

But how they put my braces on is like this...

1. they stretched out my mouth to dry out my teeth and that didnt hurt...kinda made me feel like a wanted to gag after a while.

2. they put cement on each of my teeth and then the ortho came in and put those little metal squares on my teeth

3. then they measured and cut a wire to put on top of the squares. and they just place that wire on them and bend the ends in the back to keep them from sticking out

4. then i got to pick colors and they stretched each color circle around the squares...thats wen u feel some pressure..not alot

tada! you have braces!

eat stuff u can slurp or swallow whole. biting ANYTHING hurts.

but itll go away...just have to hang on.
Reply:theyll numb you if you need teeth extracted but if your mouth has room then they wont pull teeth out
