Braces....?

i might get braces soon...

i was wondering wat the best colors are: clear, silver, pink, blue, etc.

and also, how painful is it? on a scale of 1-10 (one being nothing...10 being horrendous)

also, any advice regarding taking care of braces, foods i should avoid, anything u can suggest would be wonderful.

thx...

Braces....?
I've been wearing clear on top (clear braces) and silver on the bottom (metal braces) as they were the least visible. When you get your braces on it's not horribly painful, but when your teeth start moving they become sensitive and hurt for a few days. You will definitely want to avoid anything hard, crunchy and chewy (I switched from Grape Nuts cereal to oatmeal, and from apples to apple sauce) and make sure to brush after meals as a lot of food will get stuck in the back of your mouth w/out you noticing. Carry a travel size toothbrush and toothpaste in your purse too (some orthodontists give them out for free). Good luck with your treatment!
Reply:when i had to choose my brace colour there were only bright colours =( i picked orange lol =C Report It

Reply:The best colors or hues to go with are either silver or blue.

The pain part depends on your pain threshold. That and how tight the braces will initially be.

Foods to avoid are gum, anything with a high sugar content, anything that might snag on the bands. Sodas are off-limits due to their corrosive effects.

All you need to do is floss, brush, and rinse everyday and they should keep your teeth straight in no time.
Reply:To me silver is nice. When your braces are on, if you ever need to wear elastics or chains those come in different colors as well so you won't be stuck with looking at just one color! When they are putting on the actual braces the process does not hurt. Once they are on......on a scale of 1-10, after a few hours, it's about a ten. You have to understand that your teeth are being forced to move in the correct position very slowly. You'll be in pain for about a week. After the first 3 or 4 days the pain will start to subside. This will happen every time you go to get them "tightened", each time with less pain and fewer days to recover! As for taking care of them, just try to brush your teeth after every meal, go see your dental hygienist every 6 months, and use these tiny bristle brushes to brush underneath the braces. Your hygienist or your orthodontist will let you know about those! Avoid chewing on extremely hard foods. You might reposition a wire and THAT is not fun. If you do chew on something hard, chew it slow. Also avoid eating gooey candies like caramels, that could get stuck in between your braces. The only thing I suggest is that you do go through with it because it's so worth it. The results will make you smile!!!!!!
Reply:Here try out a bunch of different colors on this website its actually kind of fun.

And for number two.

Umm i would have to say that these days, depending on where you get them they arnt that painful.

Proably a 4 or 5.

It also depends on how crooked yout teeth are. The more crooked the more they hurt.

And my orthdontist said that chewing sugarless gum actually helps ease the pain. Becaus eit puts pressure on your teeth like when you get and cut most people apply pressure to help it stop hurting.

So SUGARLESS gum is ok.

Some other foods that arent ok are:

1. Caramal

2. Hard or sticky candy

3. Popcorn

And there are morebut as long as its not to hard, sticky, or crunchy food.

And floss and brush after every meal or atleast twice a day, everyday.

Use wax if it hurts, that you should get form the ortho.

Good luck.

And best answer would be great.

:]

Hope I helped.
Reply:I had my first set of braces already im 11 now and i have to get them again in the summer. get silver it takes quicker to tighten them because they dont have to move the brackets in the color band. the pain isnt that bad at all.
