do braces hurt when u get them? is it hard to eat food with them on? and how long do most ppl have to wear them for?? i might be getting braces soon if my parents agree to it. so I need to know these things. thx for the help! :)
Braces...!!!?
The time when it will hurt most is when you first have them on, as this is when the biggest changes take place; you will find that after a few days your teeth will already have changed position. The pain will be pretty bad, and you will not be able to eat anything that involves biting, and furthermore try to avoid trying to bite as it will only hurt more.
Also, when you go to have them adjusted, it will hurt quite a lot, but never as much as the first time you had them on, and towards the end, having them adjusted will hardly hurt at all.
I will warn you in advance that your teeth can appear to feel very loose; this is normal for anyone who has braces, just don't keep wiggling them! This probably won't do them much good.
Some of my teeth were very bad, and i had to wear my braces for a year. It should never be more than a year and a half unless your teeth are appallingly crooked and/or you keep breaking the braces.
Good luck, and in advance, PLEASE avoid hard foods! this can result in breaking the braces, and then they will have to stay on your teeth longer!
PS: I know this is a long time away, but when you have them off, your teeth will hurt quite a lot also.
Reply:yea they hurt but only once you have your wires on. and when they get tightened. i worse mine for about four years but i depends on how bad your teeth are. and i odes hurt when you eat for the first couple of days when its first on and when it gets tightened.
Reply:/ In the beginning, they will be painful.
After awhile, it is nothing.
In the long run, people will compliment you on your smile for the rest of your life.
Reply:Hey I'm with you on this one.
I'm planning to get braces as well if my parents do agree with it.
For the most part I heard there's a lil pain involved in putting the braces inside your mouth (but hey, no biggy you'll survive). Your teeth will be hurting for the first three days and you wont be able to eat anything that involves a lot of chewing. But then in the next
coming weeks, everything should be back to normal.
Reply:Well they feel sore for a few days after you get them on but you can take Advil for that, they don't hurt when they are putting them on. It is hard to eat if you have an expander but only younger kids with growing mouths get those. It might hurt after you get them tightened each month. You can have to have braces from 1 year to as much as 5 years! It depends how jumbled your teeth are. I have mine for 1 year. Ill get them off this summer. Good luck! :)
Reply:They are hard to get used to at first. They cut your mouth but you get used to it because you will get calluses. Take tylenol before your appointments. It hurts when they get tightened. Sometimes they are on from 2-4 years depending on how quickly you get alignment. It is worth the pain though when you will get perfectly straight teeth! Then, always wear your retainer as you will be instructed and then each night forever. Your teeth move each day. If you don't wear it-they will get crooked again!!!Good luck!
Reply:After you get your braces they are sore for about 4 days. Sometimes it's longer. They are sore and you can't eat hard food at first. After they stop being sore you can eat a lot of the things you at before. Ask your dentist or ortho about the food you can eat with braces. All people are different when it comes to how long you have them. Usually 6 months- 2 years. But of course it depends. Ask your ortho for more info!
I hope this helps.
Reply:Well, for ME they didn't hurt all the time. And it wasn't hard to eat, it's just food sometimes gets caught in them. I had them for a year, my friend at school had them for about 4-5 months, it depends on how bad your teeth are. The hardest part was keeping them clean, you have to brush your teeth in a different/more complicated way! :) If you get them Good Luck adjusting!!!
Reply:they do hurt initially, for about the first two weeks.
when i got mine on, i got ulcers all along my gums, so make sure you wear the wax that the dentist will give you.
its hard to eat some foods.
i find that i have to cut up my apple with a knife beforehand, and i cant really eat raw carrot or any corn. haha!
most people have braces for 1-2 years; though ive had mine for four years now -.-
im so sick of them; but i know itll all be worth it.
cause i had to have 16 teeth pulled out to get braces put in.
so im glaad to be getting them off!
