Im having braces tomorrow.., do they hurt?, how long is is gonna take to put them on? i need details !! details

it depends on what type of braces they are. it ranges from 1-5 hours but it goes really fast. just remember to drink loads of water before so yo dont end up swallowing your snot like i did. you will want to bring tylenol or asprin because there is discomfort. its gonna take a while before your lips get accustom to the brackets so smiles and talking will be akward for a while. there will be spots on the inside of your lips where the bracket or wire rubs on your lip, thats where the wax comes in. get a small mound, about the size of your pinky nail, and mold it over the problem spot on the braces. remember to brush alot, it may be a smart idea to stop by the store before you get them on so you can equip yourself with all the necessities.

toothpaste of different uses, whitening, flavored, standard





listerine, flavor of your choice as long as its an antiseptic,

and an optional electric toothbrush for those hard to reach areas.





hang up posters, or other notices to remind you to brush 3 times a day, rinse with listerine 2ice, and fluoride once a day.


take good care of your teeth, and in no time, you will have a beautiful smile. just be sure to follow the orthodontist's directions, dont eat what your not supposed to, i broke a bracket and costed me $100+
Reply:Well if you have sensitive teeth, they will probably hurt, but it depends how sensitive you are. Some people say they dont hurt at all.
Reply:you're "having" braces? You mean you're getting braces put on? Well, yes it does hurt. And no one here can tell you how long you're going to have them on, we're not your orthodontist, are we? you have to ask him/her. It obviously depends on how much your teeth need to be straightened out. The pain might also depend on your age. My sister and I got braces at the same time, and I'm in pain more than she is. The orth said it's because her teeth were smaller and not as rooted into place as mine. I'm 18, she's 12. But both of us have expereinced pain at one point or another.

it took my teeth about 2 weeeks to stop hurting, so i could eat solid, hard foods.


it wasnt fun but u will eventually feel normal again
Reply:It takes about a hour to put them on. To be honest. It hurts like hell. But don't be nervous take some aspirin before. They should give you a wax piece to chew on it helps alot. Its not when they put them on that hurts so bad. Its when they tighten the brackets. Be calm and relaxed but take aspirin!

Reply:It doesnt hurt!!! Just after a while. It takes about 3 hours but be tough. Squeeze ure boyfriends hand.

you should probably starting taking tylenol after because later on that night they will hurt a lot.


maybe like half an hour to put them on.





i say don't use the wax because when you stop then it'll scratch the inside of your mouth, but if you don't then you'll get used to it and it won't scratch you.
Reply:It takes like an hour to two hours.. It hurts kinda. Like I could have taken ibuprofen after but I didn't swallow pills then and it wasn't a big deal.
Reply:i had braces put on, it doesn't hurt when they're putting them on, but throughout the day, it does kinda hurt, because they're moving your teeth. it's not unbearable though.


this is what they done to me:


they glue little pieces of metal onto each of your teeth.


then they put metal rings on the back teeth, which does kind of hurt, a little, becuase they're spreading your back teeth apart a little. then, they put a wire in those metal braces on the rest of your teeth, and through the back ones, to anchor it. they'll put rubber bands on over the wires, to keep them on the brackets.


it's not that bad, you'll be fine.
Reply:Braces-When they put them on you are perfectly fine, later that day they are a little sore, i would say to take a pain killer just incase.


well it depends, i had to have my braces and a big spacer put in, that took about 2 and a half houres, just braces wold take about 1 and a half- to two houres.


i still have mine and i'm fine,


just make sire to brush afetr meals and do not chew gum!


my cousin did and had to keep hers for 5 months extra! its not that the gum will get stuck its the constant chewing moving around the teeth the wrong way.


they will take about 2 years to be done, but in the end there worth it!

Reply:No, in my opinion it does not hurt to have or get braces on. It may feel a little uncomfortable or weird at first though. If you have any pain take some tylenol. It takes about 15- 20 min for top and bottom, they need to let the metal dry so keep your mouth open for them so it drys quicker, if its hard for you, just think about something or take headphones to listen to, to pass the time(if your allowed to) but i am sure you will be fine, there is nothing to worry about. Reply:are you just gonna have the brackets put on or are they actually gonna do the whole thing? first they start with spacers, they put rubber donuts on either side of your back molar and leave them there a week to make room around them. then you go back and they put metal bands on those molars. they glue brackets to all your teeth, and they may leave it like that, takes less than an hour, or they may put a wire connecting them all to start the moving process. They rub on the inside of your cheeks, and make your upper and lower jaw sore for a couple days after each tightening, but it's not unbearable. and you can pick the color of the bands. You may have them on for a lil over a year, or a few years, depends how much they have to do. If they have to fix your bite they'll put rubber bands connecting from your top teeth to your bottom to create resistance. Brush your teeth often, clean in between the brackets, mouth wash, get a lil scrubber, it looks like a pipe cleaner, to get around the brackets-makes it so easy. If you don't clean your teeth well while you have braces you might have spots on your teeth when they take them off.


no worries, braces are no big deal anymore. just do as your dentist tells you, or it could take even longer to get those things off!!


takin em off is so neat, your teeth will feel so incredibly smooth. they just take this tool and squeeze the bracket n it pops off easy.

Reply:They do hurt for the first week or so but after they r fine n some ppl look really hot in them. It does not take long it all depends on the dentist hope fully u have a good 1.
Reply:putting the braces on don't hurt at all usually. it would usually take a period of one year to have braces, and the sweet part is that once you're done, you get to chew gum again!


the bad part is taking them off, for me back then, they practically pried them off! :(
