Braces..............?

Can only orthodontists put on braces or can regular dentists do it too?

Sorry folks, but a general dentist absolutely CAN do orthodontics (braces). In fact, general dentists can do anything any dental specialist can do, whether it's extractions, root canals, implants, periodontal surgery, etc. In dental school, you do receive training in every dental specialty, including orthodontics. Many general dentists choose not to do orthodontics, or limit themselves to very simple cases, because when you don't do something every day you just aren't as comfortable doing it, and maintaining the inventory in your office can be expensive and complicated when you don't use it much.





I'm an orthodontist, so I'm biased. Generally, it will cost you a bit more to have your orthodontics done by a specialist, but remember that your orthodontist has an additional two or three years of training doing NOTHING but orthodontics and focuses all of his or her practice on orthodontics. There are plenty of general dentists around me who do braces in their offices, but I'll let you in on a secret...an awful lot of them send their own kids to the orthodontist. ;)

Reply:well it depends if they are licensed for both dentist and orthodintist. Usually not. Usually Orthodontoist do it bc they have all of the equipment there..Like xrays, mold of your mouth, braces, etc. i am not sure for dentist. (my dentist doesn't but my Orthodontist does)
Reply:Only orthodontists but sometimes dentists are both orthodontists and dentists. You're dentist can still clean you teeth like regular. You still need to go to your orthodontist for tightening and check ups though.

Reply:Only orthodontists can put on braces because they have been specially trained to do that. Dentists, on the other hand, are the people who recommend you to and ortho or clean your teeth and stuff.
