Braces????????????

What is it like having braces?

My dentist has said i might have to get some soon!

Braces????????????
for the first couple of days it feels like you have tons of metal in your mouth. if you have to get a expander it feels like something is stuck to the top of your mouth that hangs down.
Reply:it's really weird at first and i never thought i'd get used to them but you will do, trust me. i've had them for under a year now and i'm getting them off in 6 weeks =D
Reply:its fine...

i have braces too....

and it causes me sores, severe!haha it's partly because I inherited it from my dad...

but it's ok to have braces, it's awkward at first, but you'll get used to it soon
Reply:Im going to be honest with you, I hated every moment of having braces. I felt so self concious about them. But it was so worth it, and looking back at it, so many people had them that I hadnt even noticed. So they werent that big of a deal.

Getting them tightened once a month meant a few days of eating yoghurt and icecream cos your teeth hurt. They arent that uncomfortable, you get used to them.

Well worth the pain... my friend and I had this saying "pain in the name of Julia Roberts", its so great having a perfect smile now!
Reply:hehe. its not that badd. it doesnt hurt when they put them on really. just the backs to hold the wires in place pinch a little when they have to pick what size fits your teeth. after you get them on, after a couple hours or somthing you'll feel the tightning and it'll hurt and you wont be able to eat like anything expecially hard stuff, so be prepared for that. i couldn't eat hard foods or even soft-ish foods for like a week! till i got used to it. then it was okay. all i had was chicken noodle soup and rice! lol. it'll go by fast though. then when you go back after about a month or so to get them tightened, it'll hurt all over again just not alot. very little. you'll still be able to eat normal foods. im not sure about what it feels like when u get them off cause i didnt get mine of yet. you get used to the braces quickly, so its not bad at all. =)
Reply:braces kill the inside of your mouth. your doctor will probably give you those strips of wax to put on the metal bits that dig into your cheek but they just come off. but after a while you get used to it

and then you have a perfect smile =D
Reply:At first, you'll probably absolutely hate them. You'll have headaches caused from the pressure on your teeth, and you may feel self conscious. Take ibuprofen or Tylenol to relieve you of your headaches, and put the braces wax on, so the braces don't bother the inside of your mouth.

After a while, you'll get used to them. They'll only bother you when you go in to have them tightened.

When you get them off, your mouth will feel so much bigger. When I got mine off, I felt more uncomfortable than I did when I got them on.

Brush your teeth at least 4 times a day, and use the thing they give you to clean in between your braces. When some people get theirs off, they have white marks from where the braces used to be. Use mouthwash too, you can't really floss with braces, so you want to be sure to get rid of all the plaque and germs you can!!

Make sure to wear your retainer. I went from having perfectly straightened teeth, to teeth that are mildly crooked again. I hate the fact that we spent so much money on something I let go to waste.

If you hate the idea of being a "metal mouth", you can ask about invisiline.

Good luck!
Reply:Braces aren't all that bad. Some people are self conscious about them it is true, but there are ones out now that are less visible. It does mean that you can't eat some kinds foods while wearing them but your teeth will look great when there off. Your teeth will be sore at times when they tighten or adjust the braces but it will go away. Just eat soft foods and take something for the pain if need be. You may even have a metallic taste at first when you first get the braces on, but that will go away in time.
Reply:Go and get ur braces bcoz " IF U R NOT USING UR SMILE U R LIKE A GIRL WITH A MILLION DOLLORS IN THE BANK AND NO CHECKBOOK"
Reply:annoying because of the : appoint mets, things you cant or atleast shouldnt eat, the appearance of them, the cost of them, the pain that goes along with them.....but it IS worth it

they fic everything! even things you dont see wrong with your teeth, they will fix including an overbite/underbite

the pian hurts, but you get used to it...brushing your teeth si also strange but you get used to that too (it feels like taking a shower...with a raincoat on! sounds weird doesnt it?)....dont eat food you shouldnt cause if you break brackets/wires it will only cause a longer treatment time....food gets stuck in them all the time, which is sopmething else thats annoying..sometimes you have to like relearn how to eat because it just feels awkward

there arwe tons of negative things about them....but as i have said, they are worth it. if you have a good ortho you should be able to ask him/her ANY qwuestions and be able to get them answered.

the average for having them on is about 18 months by the way. i think the best thing to do is phone your rotho is you have one or jusdt talk some more to your dentist, which is exactly like what i did.

the good thing about having braces is that everything is strange at first...but you do and will get used to everything about them

and, of course, youll have perfect teeth afterwards!
Reply:You know what?

If anyone tries to tell you that having braces is horrible, they're lying. Sure, it's not the best situation, but it's really not that bad. I got my braces put on the summer before I started fourth grade. Seven summers later, I'm getting them removed tomorrow. Really, if you were to get braces right now you would probably not have to wear them for more than two years maximum, but probably less than that.

Like I said, I've braces for nearly half of my life and it's never really affected me. In fact, I'm more nervous to have them removed than I was to have them put on! You'll get really used to them in about a week and if you take tylenol right before you get them then the pain will be very minimal.

Good luck!
