Braces?!?!?!?

does anybody elses braces rub against your lips and how do treat it because it hurts alot

Braces?!?!?!?
Get a magnifying mirror to make sure none of the wires are broken or loose. This is usually the problem and the Ortho office can fix it right away.

Otherwise get some wax to cover the spot that hurts you.

(sold at drug stores)
Reply:yes. mine do. After a year the inside of my lips got tough enough (the still feel soft) that they don't get abrasions from them anymore. Put some vasaline or lip gloss on them for now.

dont try the wax, it falls out or you can't get it out. and for me it didn't work.
Reply:did they give you wax? there are little wax things that you can squish onto the parts that rub, call your orthodontist's office and ask
Reply:You can buy dental wax at any drugstore. It is strips of wax that you form around the areas that rub against your mouth so they are more comfortable. You'll have to change the wax strip evry few hours so get several boxes. your mouth will toughen up after a few weeks so it will be more comfortable. try to hang in there. it gets better.
Reply:i have braces it hurts between the needles they give you to numb it, to the poking gums, to the not eating for 2 days, to throwing up and getting sick it sucks
Reply:I've had braces for about 6 months and I had that problem, but if you just play through the pain your lips get tougher. I would suggest putting a lubricant between your lips and the braces, like chapstick or vaseline. If that's not enough, take an aspirin to dull the pain.

For anyone who's about to get braces, i would suggest toughening them yourself. I didn't have this problem to the extent other people did because i chewed on my lip. Sounds crazy, but it'll give you a break when you have to go through the pain of your teeth moving.
Reply:oh yes, the painful rubbing. i've had braces for 3 years, and i can still remember how much they hurt my lips at the beginning. what you can do is what everyone else is saying. use the wax. its gross because sometimes it gets stuck, but its definitely worth it. after awhile you lips will get used to it {{and i know a few people who's lips have actually stretched and don't really get touched by the braces}} and you won't have to use the icky wax. but thats probably the best thing to use. if that doesn't work, ask your orthodontist for other suggestions.
Reply:i had braces for 2 years, and I had the same problem. Next time you are at your orthodontist you should ask for wax. I used it for that problem. you put it in the top of your lip when it starts to hurt! i dont know if every orthodontist has it but its worth a try.
Reply:Well i had braces not any more and i had the worst time with them they rubbed my lips soo much !!!! But put wax on it.. and or the can bend the wire a dif way... na dthings like that.. But the was doesnt help much like it dont take the sore away but it helps then from rubbing
Reply:At first all braces do that. My braces hurt so much that whenever i was at home i stuck cotton balls in my mouth to prevent the rubbing for a short time. I also tried to use the wax my dentist provided for me
Reply:mine did for a little while. I tried wax, but it didn't really help, so I just went back to the orthodontist and they tweaked my braces a little bit.
