Braces!!!!!!!?

i am getting braces in a month and i am so excited i can't wait my frinds said that she got put to sleep and i just want to no ho they get put on and how much do they hurt and what to eat my mom wants me not to be this excited but i can't wait!!!!

Braces!!!!!!!?
AAAAAAWWWWWW!!!

=( You're so lucky!

I had 4 molars taken out in hospital! They put me to sleep and everything! No pain though...

And braces! Omg! %26lt;3

Might sound weird, but i fell in love with mine.

They're really cute, and you get loads of attention! ha ha

Just be confident in them, and show everyone that you're not ashamed. This'll help you love them like i loved mine.

And the pain...

ok when you first get them on it feels like your whole chin is moving backwards! Not painful, just weird.

Every few weeks you'll go to get them tightened (and you get to choose pretty colours. =] )

I'll admit, it does hurt. Just slightly.

You can test it right now, just push your 2 upper front teeth back really hard for a few seconds, let go and you'll see its a bit painful to touch.

But heres a tip: Drink hot chocolate straight after and it helps to eat something quite soft aswell. This helps your gums relax, and i promise you the pain will be 10 times less.

Sometimes when you wake up, your cheeks will be stuck in your braces! Don't panic! Just pull them out gently.

And at other times (this is the worst) the metal bits will also go in your cheeks and they'll make painful holes.

Thankfully, theres a solution =D

Use mouthwash (non alcohol one) and theres these bits of wax you can get, to cover the sharp metal bits.

Genius.

I miss mine so much... ='(

OH one more thing. (lol sorry bout the long essay)

When you get them off, you might get retainers afterwards.

When you wear them at night, use chap stick or some sort of lip softening majig. Coz when you try to take them out your lips will get cuts in them if they're not moist.

WOW. hope that helped!

And remember, LOVE THEM and they'll love you.

=] Gooood luck!!
Reply:Your dentist should explain this.

But, anyways I will.

First, they put this metal rings at the back of your teeth, 4 actually. After that, they put something, like a gel on your teeth and such, then they put some glue on the brackets (Cirlce things) and put it on every tooth, after that.. They put the wire thingy, rotating it by something so it would hold, you should pick a color that you like :)

Dont eat hard foods..!
Reply:wow i wasnt that excited, im sure it will change when you actually have them on, at my orthodontist you dont get put to sleep, it takes 1-2 hours. i can't really describe it, it feels really abnormal and it hurts so bad its numb at first but then the numbness goes away and its just painn for about a week. make sure you take some ibuprofen before you get them on unless you are getting put to sleep. you'll get used to them after a few days. also you have to brush especially good and use flouride mouthwash. at my orthodontist, not all they want you to use a special flouride toothpaste after you brush ur teeth with reg toothpaste. they can be a pain sometimes. ohh and enjoy those appointments every 8 weeks when you get them tightened, they kill. make sure you take lots of ibuprofen before and after appointments. they tell you you cant eat certain foods but you can eat it usually, depends on your specific situation. if you're just getting normal braces with a metal wire then its fine, i just try to stay away from popcorn, cuz the kernals can pop your brackets off,it happened to my friend a few times. and they tell you not to chew gum, but i do it all the time.

good luck with it!!
Reply:They didnt put me to sleep! I was excited too...but they brush your teeth for you with this polisher thing and it hurts! It feels warm but afterwards you brush it all off. Next they put your molar bands on...They're these little silver things that were where the spacers used to be. At first they feel weird. They rub up against your cheeks a lot. Then they put glue/cement on your teeth and one by one they put the brackets on. They use this blue light thing and it dries it. Afterwards they put the wire in and then you choose a color and then they put them. It hurts a little with the colors but it feels fine. Then they teach you how to brush and blah blah blah. On the first day, I ate anything I wanted! But the second day at lunch I couldn't even chew a burrito! You don't feel pain but, you feel pressure. And I have zero-tolerance for pain, they don't hurt. I haven't fallen in love with mine yet, but maybe by the time I get my bottom ones!
