Braces!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

do braces hurt? if so, then how long and how much do they cost???

Braces!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
I used to have braces.I had them put on march 26,2007 and got them off Jan.08,2008.They cost a fortune and they do hurt at times, especially on the first night with them!I hate those damn things!
Reply:Braces don't usually hurt. They can hurt for a day or two when you have them adjusted, but it's nothing that a couple of ibuprofen can't clear up. How long you need to wear them depends on how bad your teeth are and what kind of braces you get. Traditional metal ones move your teeth the fastest. I had ceramic on top and metal on the bottom. Ceramic cost more, but they were not as easy to see as traditional metal. As for cost, that is different for everyone. You're best bet is to go for a consultation with an ortho. They will examine you, lay out your options and give you the cost breakdown for each option. Best of all, most consultations are free and you are under no obligation.
Reply:Yes, it hurts for the first 3 days at least. I couldn't eat anything but soup. Do not try to eat anythign but soup..I did adn I broke a braket off.

Every month you should get a larger wire in or your wire tightened and it will hurt for the next 3 days again.

After those 3 or 4 days it feels normal.
Reply:they will hurt just like any other dental thing would hurt. but just take some ibuprofin (it always helps with swelling and thats what i used when i get teeth worked on) and you will get used to them and the pain will go away. and you will be left with a beautiful smile!
Reply:Your braces may make your mouth sore for one to three days after you first get them on and each time you have your wires adjusted. Otherwise they shouldn't bother you at all. My daughter just takes Tylenol on the days her teeth hurt. Back when I had braces, I found that chewing gum made my mouth feel better, too. You'll be amazed by how quickly you adapt to having braces on your teeth! It's really not bad at all, and you'll definitely end up with a beautiful smile! As for the price tag, it was $5000 for my daughter's braces. Yikes!
Reply:Braces don’t hurt when they put it on. At first it might feel weird in your mouth, but later you will get use to it. A few hours later it starts hurting. The next day is the WORST because it hurts so badly. Take some Advil or some pain pills. Then the 3rd day it kind of get better. You will get cuts in your mouth, but use the braces wax. I tried to use the braces wax, but it doesn’t stay on %26amp; don't worry if you swallowed it because nothing will happen. Later on you won’t get cuts because you build up tougher skin. I know what it's called, it starts w/ a C. It will hurt for a couple of days, but days %26amp; days past by it will get better. You won't even notice you have braces on. Probably they will be sore for about 3-7 days. For the first couple of days, you should eat soft food. You could eat food like oatmeal, mash potatoes, porridge, banana %26amp; other soft food.

They cost about 3,000-6,000
Reply:hey kelsey. im sure they do not hurt. alot of my friends have had them and i have never herd them complain. i think its safe to say the only time it hurts is when you get them tightened,
Reply:the only part that kinda hurts is when they put the metal bands on your back molars or with the spacers

to tell you the truth i dont why people think they hurt

i dont think they do i have had them twice

IT usually takes about two hours to put them on

they usually cost around 5000 dollars
Reply:A good answer has been given by Jen and Connie, but to improve the accuracy of the answer:

They only hurt for 1 week after you get them on, and every time you get them tightened (around once a month) for 2-4 days. They can cost up to $7,500 depending on how bad your teeth are, but can also be as cheap as $3,000 for minor changes. The time depends on the price i.e. the more expensive the braces, the longer period of repair, the cheaper they are, the shorter the amount of time but the average cost and time of braces is $5,000 @ 18 months. Daemon brackets (a smaller more effective type of braces) can reduce the pain and time for perfect teeth, but they cost around $1,000-$2,000 EXTRA.
