Braces?????

How come you have to wear braces for soo long! After like 6 months your teeth look perfect but you still have to wear them for like another year and a half!! Why???

Braces?????
once they get your teeth straight, they have to get the top aligned with the bottom.

Reply:something about ur teeth shifting...
Reply:If you get the braces off too early, your teeth will move back to their original position, so keeping the braces on for a while lets your teeth get 'used to' the way they're supposed to be.
Reply:because they will move back to the same place it was in at first.
Reply:good question
Reply:apparently if you take them off too soon, your teeth will just start to move back to the way they were because the roots havent moved properly. i had mine removed ages ago but im still supposed to wear a retainer 2 nights a week
Reply:Your teeth might look perfect, but if you were to get them off after just sixth months, they will move back. Even after you get them taken off, you still need to wear a retainer at night or possibly in the daytime. I've had braces, and when I put my retainer in, and take it out I can feel the difference. Hope this helps!
Reply:well, sometimes they are fixing stuff you cant see, im not kidding here, my teeth were perfect after a month, but i had a cross bite and an overbite they had to fix, i still have my braces, its been about eight months, they said 1 1/2 - 2 yrs.... yech. But last time i went, they said my teeth look great right now, so i get them off very soon! it will only have been a little over a year!! im so excited!!! so be patient, There is also a couple extra months they leave your braces on to rly set your teeth so they wont move after the braces are taken off. GOOD LUCK!

remember, be patient, and once they are off you'll have gorgeous teeth that wont move back, and also remember how a good looking smile can improve anyones looks! hang in there~ and have fun with the colors, i recommend light pink, black, and teal blue.... (of course not all at the same time) but those have been my faves!

:D
Reply:that happened to me too....because im older my teeth would shift back if i got them off too soon. they said it had something to do with your gums turning more into bone as you get older so if you shift everything around its just like breaking a bone...it just heals itself and realigns..so they leave them on to make sure everything heals the way it should and that your teeth wont shift after you get them off (too bad mine did anyway T_T )
Reply:At lot of it has to do with how old you are when they put them on. If all or your permanent teeth have not come in, they have to wait on those. As you grow your teeth shift, you don't want them taken off too soon or your teeth with shift. They took mine off 6 months early, and my bottom teeth have shifted just a little.
Reply:i know! isnt it so annoying????/

its because youre teeth, like the roots and al those other parts in your mouth that you cant see, are being twisted and pulled, and shoved around all over the place

and they need time to adjust

i felt that after about 6 months or so, my teeth were perfect...but thena few months later i realized even more changes with my teeth i ahd never noticed before!

as time goes on, youll see even mroe bigger and better changes happening....

it isnt over it!

keep on doing everything the ortho tells you to, and you may end up getting them off sooner rather than later!!! (seriously!)

its also just like when youll get retainers, yoyu have to wear them ATLEAST for 2 years after you get your braces off (all day, then jsut at night, then jsut a few times at night) becuase the roots of your teeth adn the actual bones in your mouth have to heal after theyve been shifted around

hope some of this has been informative
Reply:exactly what everyone else said
