I have to get braces I was just wanted to know a few things:
-Do they let you chose the color of the braces?
-If they let you chose what colors should i have?
-Did it hurt while the dentist was applying the braces?
-What is the average time some one has there braces on for? because I know different people have them on for different times.
Braces????
on a scale of 1-10, i would says the hurt factor is 5
i think the braces on the second day hurt the most. spacers hardly hurt
***average time normally goes from 6 months to 4 years but most people have them on for about 16-18 months
***u can get as many pattern of colors u want, but dont go more than 2
***pink and light blue are cute colors
***NEVER get white or clear bands cause white looks like food is stuck in ur braces and clear like it u eat ketchup or a lollipop or somethin, they stain
***they put the bands, and then every time u go back u get to choose new colors
k
i have gotton em on over 6 times (dont ask!)
it doesnt hurt dont worry-it is just a long process and it tastes kinda bad
they give u a band on ur molars fiist, to see ur size and stuff
first theu put this positioner thing is ur mouth, it makes your mouth stretch a lkot so they can see ur teeth, it will bother u for a minute or 2 but u will get used to it, u keep that thing on the WHOLE time
then there are these things that look like shots and stuff, i got really freaked out when i first saw them but actually, they dont go in ur mouth! this is the cement that they put on ur braces then they stick the braces on ur teeth
**the cement kinda tastes bad!
they do this the first time and every time u get them tightened:
they will put the rubber bands on ur braces with things that look like sisscors (they dont hurt) after that they put the wire-this is the most anoying part cause after they slip it in ur mouth, they have to cut it to make it fit right
then that is it!Ur done
but after u do it, ask ur doctor for dental wax, dental cotton balls, and rubber cover up
***each person is different i bleed a little on the first day and i put a few cotton balls in my mouth for like 3 minutes
when u get home use ACT mouthwash and for the first hour, ur teeth may be a little numb so drink mainly fluids-clear fluids
then for the first day or 2 ur teeth may be a little sensitive so stick with eating soup, pasta, pudding, jello, beans, yogurt, custard, fries, milkshakes, ice cream, and soft foods-avoid straws
every night use Peroxyl mouthwash for like a week to keep ur gums storng from cuts and use dental wax and rubber coverups so u wont get blisters, they hurt a little but arent that bad. avoid sleeping on ur side, try to keep ur head straight up for a couple of days
every morning and every night use the Peroxyl mouthwash again for 2 weeks then after that just use ACT mouthwash to keep ur teeth and gum s healthy. get some Super floss, made for braces-i sugest elictrical toothbrushes they keep ur mouth cleaner
dont worry-trust me- i have had my braces on for almost 4 years, i just got em off about two months ago-i luv my new smile!!!
Reply:yes you get to choose your color
I use to get light pink, but i do silver now
its doesn't hurt when the orthodontist is putting the braces on,just takes time.
18-24 months
Reply:most orthadontists will let you choose a color.
i usually got green, around halloween i would get red and black. chirstmas i would get green and red. but usually i would just get a green color. Green is my fav and it matched my eyes.
getting braces put on might hurt a little bit but its really not that bad.
I had my braces for about 2 years i think. my brother had them for 3 years. it really depends on how messed up your teath are before you get the braces on. every month they tighten the braces. it doesn't hurt when that happens but later that day your mouth may be a little sore. having braces will get annoying just cuz you get tired of having metal in your mouth. but it is really worth it. when you get them off it feels so good to have straight teeth without any metal on them. lol
Reply:Yes, you can choose your braces and choose and change the colors of your bands. I had white, porcelain braces with clear bands.
Start with Christmas colors. You can change them after about 2 months.
No, it doesn't hurt when they put the braces on. It just feels different. Only when they start moving teeth or changing jaw size does it begin to hurt. It isn't that bad.
I wore mine for 3 years.
Reply:1. Yes thay let you choose
2. I prefer lime green and pink or navy and a lighter blue
3. No when you start eating then yeah
3. Yeah your right it depends on your case i have to for 20 months it's usually from about 1 1/2 to 2 years
Reply:i recommend you find an orthodontist with the newer Damon SL Brackets, they dont require color, because they dont require rubber bands, there much smaller in size, and take less treatment time, they are half stainless-steel and half resin brackets.
It does not hurt when the braces are first put on, but after a couple of hours, the pressure on your mouth builds up. and after 3 or so days, your mouth will feel comfortable again.
The time of treatment varies on how crowded your teeth may be, usually expect 1-2 and half years with the new Damon Brackets, and expect a longer time if your getting the older traditional braces with rubber bands, you may also even need to get an extraction on your 2 upper and 2 bottom premolars (thats 4 teeth taken away from your mouth) if your teeth are too overly crowded with the traditional braces. With damon brackets you wont need extractions.
Reply:Awesome! getting braces is exciting, i got my braces 5 months ago! i know quite a bit because i did my co-op at school at an orthodontist. They let you choose your colours, my favourite are turquoise and coral! colours like smoke, baby blue, white, bubble gum pink tend to fade and dye really easily. It didn't hurt that much, it's mainly disconfort from having your mouth open that long. Orthodontic treatment varys for person to person, if your case if bad or oyur young your likely tohave them on for a few years, i'm having mine on for close to a year because i'm making fast progress because my gums are very healthy. To speed up treatment keep your teeth clean clean clean and brush your gums! It hurts after you get them on so try and eat after you get them on! good luck with your braces!
Reply:Yes you choose the color
Choose any color but yellow, orange or light green (it makes you look like you have food stuck in them)
No, but It hurts the day after you get them on... and sometimes when they get tightened.
Average... i'd say 3 years a bit more depending on the state of your teeth. I hope i was helpful and don't freak out about them.
Reply:ok,
yes they have many colors...
- you can choose your band colors they range from guyish colors like dark blue, green and black... to pink and orange- even teal and lime.
- for SOME orthodontists they give you an option on the actually permanent part- they may give you the option for clear (in my opinion arent good looking), silver (classic), or gold (im not sure whether it looks good w/ colored bands but i cant imagine so- plus it makes u look like you have a gangsta grill- lol)
-i recomend- pink, teal (personal fave), purple, and gray/silver
-i DONT recomend pale colors- if u have a whitening toothpaste they fade and look greenish (NOT attractive), also yellow and green might look like food stuck or plaque, but i have dark green on right now and it looks pretty good.
-it doesnt so much hurt when they put them on but after your teeth start to move it kills and you need tylenol for like three days after getting them on... after a week or so you get used to them and the sores go away- for sores i recommend tanic (namebrand) its a small bottle of yellowish gross looking stuff and it tasted horrid but it numbs your sores- just put on wax and tanic and your good to go- tanic also helps the healing- they also have these new things for the canker sores- there like plastic discs and they stick on the sore like a bandaid.
i havent tried them yet so i dont know. A few days after every ajustment is uncomfortable but its ok after like two or three days.
-the average i believe is like two years- thats what they tell most people depending on your situation- ive had mine on for two years and im very close to getting them off- my teeth were pretty screwed up but not as bad as some ive seen.
Hope that helped and good luck with your braces!!! :)
