Braces????

I am going to get braces soon, probably with in the next two months. I got some questions. What do dentists do to put on the braces? How long does the procedure take? Does it hurt? What are good colors for the braces? Once, the braces are on, what kinds of food should i stay away from? I have also heard about the rubber bands, what is that for? thanks for your help in advance and you can also give me more info if you like.

Braces????
Well we glue the brackets on your teeth and attach the wires to the brackets. About 45 minutes. Well you will be a little sore. I would say blue is a very popular color. Gummy and hard food. Bands are just for us to move the teeth the way we need it to go.
Reply:I just got braces, too. It's so much easier than it used to be they make advances all the time. All they do now to put them on is apply some glue with flouride in it on each tooth where the brackets are going to be stuck on (takes about 2 sec.) then they position each little bracket on the teeth and when they're exactly where they want them, they hold a special light near your teeth to activate the glue (takes about 2 or 3min.) The brackets have a space in them for a wire to snap into, and that's what they do with the archwire (another sec.) To keep the archwire in place, they use a special tool to somehow wrap each bracket with special little wirey bands, it doesn't hurt, it just holds the wire onto the bracket extra (maybe 1min.) After that you're done, they're on. Don't worry about what kinds of food not to eat believe me, they will explain all of that and more. They won't let you leave without making sure all of that is covered, they'll show you how to brush, what not to eat, how to floss, etc. You'll basically be able to eat whatever you're comfortable eating at the time. Your teeth will be sore at first because they're starting to move, but they won't be all the time it does wear off. Your mouth gets used to the wires and toughens up so it doesn't hurt your cheeks and stuff. You really don't need rubber bands, those are optional if you're like 12 and want funky colors or something. If you want braces that aren't too obvious you could get ceramic braces but you won't be done as soon because they're more delicate than the metal ones. Clear braces always end up looking like you have some gunk on your teeth. I chose metal ones, because they're actually really small and you can get them off quicker. They just work better all around, they're not big like they used to be they look fine lol. Congratulations on your braces, you'll love it when they come off, it's totally worth it.
Reply:don't stress about getting braces on - you get used to them fairly quickly! I have had mine on for about 4 weeks now and they don't bother me anymore. When you get them on they don't hurt until about 3 - 4 hours after having them on. The actual procedure of getting the braces on doesn't hurt - you can just feel a little pressure. I can't tell you exactly what they do to put them on but it is something like :

They put a sort of glue on each tooth and then put the square brackets on. They then measure the wire to fit your mouth and then use the colours to help put the wire in place. you can decide on the colours you want then you don't need to worry about it now. It does take some time to get used to the feeling of them in your mouth but like i said before you do get used to them in a few days. I don't really know what rubber bands are because I don't have them. I think they hook from your top braces to your bottom braces and you have one on both sides and I think they help to reline your bite - not sure though.

The dentist will tell you everything when you get there. They will definitely answer all of your questions much much better than what I have! Don't worry about them - Good luck! :)
