Yesterday I went to the orthodontist's office for the consultation and they told me the diagnosis and treatment plan that they have for me. I also got my spacers put in and MAN are they annoying.
According to my orthodontist my treatment plan is as followes:
1)Band maxillary right and left first molar (molar bands)
2)Headgear wear
3)Refer to extract first bicuspids (pull my teeth)
4)Bond upper arch
5)Bond lower arch
6)Headgear wear
7)Regular dental check ups
I DON'T want my teeth pulled but maybe I won't have to. Can anybody offer some comfort?
Second, I really don't want to wear headgear but what can you do? Anybody have any comments on headgear, exspecially people who have had it?
Third, when they have headgear wear on their twice does that mean I am going to wear headgear and then stop wearing it, get my braces put on and then resume wearing it or does it mean I will start wearing headgear before I get my braces and then keep wearing it while I get and have them?
Braces?!?!?
As someone who is terrified by the idea of having teeth removed, I can assure you it wasn't that bad. I had to have four extractions, and the worst part of the ordeal was only having to sit around my house hours afterward with my mouth numbed (I hate that feeling)! I hope that offers a little comfort.
I had headgear as well, and typically, it's removable and only worn at night. So, that isn't so bad. :) In order to properly wear headgear, you must have braces (it hooks onto them), so I have no idea why they'd write it down twice? Unless it's a mistake, or you're to wear it at two different periods during the braces process. Regardless, you won't have to worry about that until your braces are put on. But chin up! The great results are worth it!
Reply:I got braces when I was 22. My teeth were almost straight before I got them, but I wanted them straighter. I had an over bite. My orthodontist wanted to pull out some top teeth also. I didn't let him. I regret it, because now I have straight teeth with an over bite that is almost gone. My advise is that if there is no other way to get rid of your overbite then you should pull out your teeth. It'll look better in the end. I didn't wear head gear, so I have no advise for that. I had my braces for almost 2 years. I think headgear is only worn at night. Make sure you floss daily. Good Luck.
Reply:it's okay. It may look embarassing in school, but try not to have any "embarassing" moments that hurt ur reputation.
Also, its not permanent, u can always switch to a private school
Reply:Hey I am about twelve too! I got almost that same treatment. My orthodontist said that the tooth extraction may not be nessacary if I wiggle that tooth a lot, I did and it came out! I have headgear and it hurts a little and is hard to sleep in at first but you only wear it at bedtime and thats all. I would ask your mom or dad about this because it hurts and if they say no ask if you can ask another ortho's opinion. Of course you need a regular dentist checkup. The molar bands are not too bad are a little uncomfortable at first but not as bad as braces. I had bonds and they are not that bad go to this website to read about them:

Braces hurt at first and when you get them thightend and get them off but not that bad!
Reply:There's one way you can avoid it, not get braces. The spacers will spread your teeth apart enough to put the bands on. There's no way of getting around the discomfort for a couple of days. You may even find after a couple of days, a few may fall out. The discomfort only lasts a couple of days.
As far as teeth being pulled, it depends upon the problem with your teeth. Some teeth spread out like fingers, others bunch up. I'm guessing your teeth are bunched up, there's no way to get out of having a few teeth extracted.
The headgear I believe you will only wear at night. In fact, it may make speed the moving of your teeth.
Reply:ha ha u have to wear headgear!!!!!!
Reply:you most likely wear the headgear at night,
you need to get your teeth pulled for space to straighten your teeth.
remember to stack up on soft food like pudding and ice cream.
yummy.
Reply:I have some advice on molar bands. When your dentist puts it on, your teeth and gums might feel numb, or even a little painful. There might be some blood...but do not worry! When my dentist put on my molar bands, she didn't tell me all about it! I just got a surprise when she suddenly drilled my teeth(just an expression) and fitted the molarbands in. It hurt a little, depending on the person, that is.
Braces are okay, there really worth it.
:-)
Reply:listen to you ortho and wear the headgear. in the long run when your braces are taken off you wont have any problems.
