Braces?!?!?

I am going to be getting braces soon, like b4 school starts, and i wanted to know sum tips, and stuff i'd need to know about braces. I also want to know how bad they hurt, like on a scale of 1 to 10.

Thx!

Braces?!?!?
They only hurt when they are first put on and about two to four days after they are tightened. Always brush and floss or your teeth will decay and stain. Do not bite anything with your front teeth and don't eat candy.
Reply:9 the first week and then u barely notice them
Reply:when they tighten them it hurts for like 2 days at around a 5. dont eat apples if you bite it it will brake them.
Reply:My daughters got into the habit of taking Tylenol before going to the orthodontists, cause they knew they would be hurting after they left. Only advice I can give is follow the instructions given to you, otherwise all that work and money would have been for nothing. Good luck!
Reply:I had braces twice, first ones 4 years second ones like three. They hurt when you get them adjusted, just make sure you wear rubber bands no matter how much you hate them. It can cut down ho w long you have them by half or more.
Reply:ohhhhhhh its 11 for the first two weeks then afterwards you'll get used to it its gonna be hard for you to eat. Just take painpills
Reply:Like a 7-8 when you first get them on. After that when you get your bands changed it's like a 4. If your braces rub against your mouth the orthodontist should give you some wax in which you can put on the bracket. Don't eat hard foods because your brackets can come off your teeth... [like if you want an apple cut it up into tiny pieces before eating it]. Don't worry about braces getting stuck if you kiss someone it doesn't happen ;)
Reply:well it depends on the person and how much you actually need them to move really.

but for me it was like a 9 and i couldn't bite a thing for like a week

as you have them longer they don't hurt as much when you get them tightened
Reply:I had braces for over two years. After a little while you get really used to them and they get easier.

Some things to know:

When you first get your braces, it will hurt. It won't be killer, but there will be pain involved.

The pain does subside the longer you have them, so it gets easier.

Don't eat sticky foods like they tell you. Things like caramel and gum get stuck EVERYWHERE, and it's not only hard to get out, it's extremely irritating.

Don't mess with your braces too much, like pulling on the bands and such; they aren't indestructible.

The end result is worth everything though!
Reply:I just got braces about a month ago and they didn't really hurt that bad, like rating a 3. It feels weird, like an extra set of teeth and eating is a little hard, but you will get used to it.

you should never worry if something happens, because the orthadonist can always fix it for you. You should brush your teeth often, you don't want yellow ugly teeth!
Reply:Hi there i have braces at the moment and i am getting them off soonish!

At first they may hurt a bit and some people take paracetemol but it really isnt that bad. One thing i would really suggest to you is to try not to drink fizzy drink and if you do brush your teeth straight after. Every time you brush your teeth do it for much longer than usual. I fyou dont brush them well then you will end up with stains on your teeth! and you don't want that!

They will probably get you to wear small elastic bands on your brace about half way through treatment. If you are like me and dont like them cuz they look stupid then wht i did was wore them just at night. However to get your braces off more quickly it is best to wear them straight through the day. I think the most pain will be the first couple of days after getting them on and then t will be fine. I would rate it 4/10 but it is quite hard to eat straight after you get them so try eating soft foods like soup!

hope this helps ;)
Reply:The pain is tolerable. It's the worst right after you go to the orthodontist. He or she will tighten the wires, which will slightly pull your teeth into place. It kinds hurts, but the pain goes away over the next couple days.

Oh, it also hurts when they put the big braces on your molars. They're like a metal ring that fits around your tooth. Those can be sore when they're putting them on, but the pain goes away after a few days. Kinda like, a little better each day.

Also, the metal can sometimes cut up the insides of your mouth. When I had my braces (twice) they gave me wax to put on them when they cut my mouth. It helped smooth things over a lot.

Brushing and flossing especially becomes really hard. If you don't do a good enough job, your teeth could be stained with little squares from where the braces were glued to your teeth.

On a scale of 1 to 10, it depends on how tough you are. Just remember that it's not THAT bad. The pain is only temporary. Things will only get better. And, it's worth it. You'll have GREAT teeth when it's all over.
Reply:I did not even notice mine.

My teeth where horrible.
Reply:I'd have to say at first, right after you get them on, they hurt a lot (maybe a 5 or 6) but you get used to them. I have braces and I pretty much eat anything I want to (shh! jk) and it's not too bad but I've had them for about a year and a half. No matter how many times you hear it, Brush Your Teeth! If you don't brush them enough, then when they take them off you can have lines or little white squares in the middle of your teeth! Ew! And don't drink too much coffee, but if you can't live without coffee, just make sure to wash your mouth out really good right after (with water or something), or brush your teeth afterwards. Same with pop like Coke and Pepsi that are dark colored. And just to warn you, if you play an instrument, it'll probably be hard to play right after you get your braces on, but you'll get used to it after a while. And ONE more thing! :D

Never EVER get light colored rubberbands (the ones that go on the brackets) because they turn yellow after a while. This is mostly with lavender (I know that one from experience...lol), white, and clear. If you want a color that matches everything go for silver. With alternating colors it can look funky in pictures. The colors that I get often that work well are silver, dark blue, purple, and dark (er) green. but don't go too bright dark green because it can look like you have spinach stuck in your teeth! Gross!

Well I hope that stuff can help you! (and that it's not too overwelming!)

Good Luck!
Reply:THE DENTISTS KEEP YOUR MOUTH OPEN FOR A REALLY LONG TIME, SO I'D WEAR LOTS OF CHAP STICK!!!! AND IT REALLY DOESN'T HURT THAT BAD, I'D SAY PROBABLY A 3! I'VE HAD THEM ONCE B4 AND NOW I'M GETTING THEM AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY!!!! AND I'M MEGA EXCITED!!! ANYWAY SO DON'T BE NERVOUS AND WEAR LOTS OF CHAP STICK!!!
Reply:i have braces first of all u must wash your teeth at least 2 times a day first when u put it at dentist it wont hurt at all 0000000000 but u will feel sth new in your mouth

then first 2 weeks it will hurt u realy about 10

then it will be 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 till it reaches 0

after that ok u will feel it normal and u will like it because u will change colours and so on

and then each time u visit the dentist after it will hurt first 2 days 10 and then ok

like that each time u visit the dentist

note from your sister

try to wash your teeth as many as u can because it may leave white patches after u remove it if u do not brush your teeth regulary

and u will have your braces for 1 to 10 years it varies from person to another

i wish i said to u all information u need good luck and do not be afraid

take it easy
Reply:Top braces only definitely will not look 'funny' or 'wierd'. On a scale of 1 - 10, I'd say 6 or 7. Remember though, a) everyone's pain threshold is different and b) it is only the first few days that are bad, it gets better afterwards.

Keep hydrated, otherwise your mouth stands no chance at toughening up and getting used to the new braces. Use the dental wax on sore areas. Use painkillers to help ease the pain. Stick to soft foods for the first few days, but try to go back to your normal diet as soon as possible - chewing will increase blood flow to the gums.
Reply:well be4 u get braces u get these things called spacers they feel weird but braces hurt more once u get them unlike braces u get use 2 them but spacers every time u eat it feels like what ever u eat gets stuck in your teeth as u get braces on u dont really feel them but u will not b in the mood 4 chooing trust me so stick with soft foods like ice cream, jello, pudding, and mashed potatos. some of the pain comes from ceping your moth open 4 so long and also there starting 2 move the next morning thats when they really hurt like a 7. but i think a good smiel is worth it!

best of luck

Jib
