Braces?!?!?

I am going to get braces so if you got braces please help me!!!

First, Is it harmful if you swallow the wax you put on your braces????

Sencondly, Is there anything out there that you could use to make your mouth numb so the braces wouldn't hurt you, like something the you could like swish through your mouth or something.

Please help!!!!!

Braces?!?!?
Swallowing the wax is harmless because the wax is harmless becasue the wax is easily digestive. All about braces:

When you get them put on, do NOT make the same mistake i made, wear chapstick, you will have your lips be separated and if you don't wear chapstick it will feel as if the dentist is slowly ripping your lips apart. This is how they get put on:

*1. Your teeth are cleaned and dried.

*2. A special "glue" is put on yor teeth.

*3. Each bracket is put on each tooth one by one.

*4.The glue is dried with this special UV light.

*5. The wire is then put on, help by the ligatures, or, if you are getting speed or damon braces, connected through the little hole.

And now, here's your list of do's and don'ts with your braces:

Do's:

*Brush your teeth every day

*For the first days, eat soft foods.

*If at school, use mouthwash at least.

*Floss at least once daily.

*Take Tylenol 1 hour before they get put or immediately after they get put.

*Wear chapstick

Don'ts:

*Don't eat hard, sticky or gooey foods.(for the first days, the ortho tells you not do it but as long as you brush after, its all good)

*Don't chew gum with sugar. (Try trident sugarless gum,it's good for your teeth and it tastes good.)

*Don't touch your braces too much or you might break them.

*Don't rub your tongue against your braces, you might cut your self.

*Don't chew on pencils or erasers.

*Don't bite your nails.

Remember: Braces work by applying pressure to your teeth. If your teeth are uncomfortable and feel like their being pressured, that's a GOOD thing.

Colors:

Try getting colors to match upcoming holidays such as green and red for Christmas. Don't be afraid to mix it up and express your self! Also, theres something new called braces jacketz and it's these clip-on things that have letters and sings, heres the link: http://www.bracketjacketz.com/home.html!...

Good luck and remember,it's worth it in the end!

Pain:

Pain and discomfort is common for the first five days.(or around that time.) Since your gums are still soft, the brackets will slightly cut your mouth. If that happens, go to your local drugstore and buy a canker medicine and put it around your gums. For the pressure, drink lots of ice cold water because the cold loosens the wires.

So yeah that's all I could think of now if there's more I'll add it.

I almost forgot, if your braces start cutting you then go to:http://www.dentakit.com/cocoforbr.html..... to buy a comfort cover, they really work!

All in all,

Don't worry hun, you'll be OK!!
Reply:i've never swallowed the wax, but i'm pretty sure it isn't harmful. It's pretty hard to swallow it. Take advil before you go in. It doesn't hurt to get them on, at all, but afterwords you may be in a little pain. It didn't hurt me at all, and i'm a cry baby.

good luck!
Reply:it will hurt. it will be hard to eat. no its not harmful to swallow the wax i did all the time. try orajel its not a mouth wash but its like a paste stuff good luck enjoy ur new straight teeth when u get them off
Reply:it is not harmful to swallow the was, just dont swallow too much. they usually give you stuff to numb some spots of your mouth. they only hurt the first 2 days to make them straight. and you can talik.
Reply:I found the wax not very helpful. I would put it on and after being in my mouth for like 5 min. it would fall off. I never used it, and I was fine. I did swallow it once, but it's not that bad. Hm..for making your mouth numb, I guess you could use the stuff that's for kancer sores. It numbs the sore, so I guess it could work on your gums or w/e. They're not that bad. After a while you get used to the pain of getting them tightened and you find them hurting for shorter amounts of time.
Reply:the wax is not harmful, but as for the numbing, i would eat like 3 popsicles in a row so its cold numb, and then it wouldnt hurt for like 30 minutes. But remember eat mainly liquids, and things you can suck on. and as a little tip, dont get clear or white bands, they stain and look nasty!
Reply:1) Swallowing the wax is no biggie.

2) The braces hurt because your teeth are being shifted. It doesn't hurt the same way as a cavity, for example. So I don't think any kind of numbing rise or orajel would do much. Take something like Tylenol or Advil for the pain. It'll last longer and work better.

3) I won't lie...they hurt for a little while after you get them on and after each time you get them tightened. But it's more of a discomfort than pain. If you had spacers like I did, I can tell you the pain is NOT as bad as them. For me, spacers hurt more than most kinds of pain I've ever experienced!

4) It'll only be awkward to talk and eat for the first week or two while you're getting used to having them. You'll probably want to eat softer foods for a couple days until the discomfort and tightness goes away. But soon, they'll just get to be a part of you. The inside of your lips toughen up a bit and you won't even notice them. Then, once they come off, it almost feels like your teeth are gone! Everything's so smooth and gorgeous.

Hope that was helpful. Don't worry about any pain, it's no big deal. Definitely all worth it once they come off and you have a great smile! :)
Reply:Welll when you first get them eat ice cream and relax!:)

second use swish mouthwash
Reply:I don't think it's harmful to swallow the wax. I haven't swallowed it yet, that I know of.

and Listerine could help numb your mouth from some pain.

It isn't hard to talk, and it's not hard for me to talk.
Reply:First of all, calm down. It's not harmful if you swallow the wax, I've done it and nothing happened... if the wax was harmful to you, then it wouldn't go in your mouth, right?

For pain relief, you could try GUM brand Rincinol, it works pretty good on me. It helps soothe canker sores, and many other pain problems associated with orthodontic appliances. Or you could try orajel, it's this gel that comes in a small tube, and you apply small amounts to the painful areas so that it numbs the area. You could also try aspirin... but it doesn't work as well as orajel or rincinol. And last but not least, you can try the old fashioned way: combine some salt with warm water and rinse with that.

Goodluck!
