I am getting braces in the end of July and I am SO excited!!! I want to get them sooner, but my mom wants me to have one last brace free vacation. Do they hurt?
Braces........?
Kind of. When you get them put on, do NOT make the same mistake i made, wear chapstick, you will have your lips be separated and if you don't wear chapstick it will feel as if the dentist is slowly ripping your lips apart. This is how they get put on:
*1. Your teeth are cleaned and dried.
*2. A special "glue" is put on yor teeth.
*3. Each bracket is put on each tooth one by one.
*4.The glue is dried with this special UV light.
*5. The wire is then put on, help by the ligatures, or, if you are getting speed or damon braces, connected through the little hole.
And now, here's your list of do's and don'ts with your braces:
Do's:
*Brush your teeth every day
*For the first days, eat soft foods.
*If at school, use mouthwash at least.
*Floss at least once daily.
*Take Tylenol 1 hour before they get put or immediately after they get put.
*Wear chapstick
Don'ts:
*Don't eat hard, sticky or gooey foods.
*Don't chew gum with sugar. (Try trident sugarless gum,it's good for your teeth and it tastes good.)
*Don't touch your braces too much or you might break them.
*Don't rub your tongue against your braces, you might cut your self.
*Don't chew on pencils or erasers.
*Don't bite your nails.
*Don't eat popcorn.
Remember: Braces work by applying pressure to your teeth. If your teeth are uncomfortable and feel like their being pressured, that's a GOOD thing.
Colors:
Try getting colors to match upcoming holidays such as green and red for Christmas. Don't be afraid to mix it up and express your self! Also, theres something new called braces jacketz and it's these clip-on things that have letters and sings, heres the link: http://www.bracketjacketz.com/home.html!...
Good luck and remember,it's worth it in the end!
PS:I have braces!
So ya that's all I could think of now if there's more I'll add it.
I almost forgot, if your braces start cutting you then go to:http://www.dentakit.com/cocoforbr.html..... to buy a comfort cover, they really work!
Reply:im getting braces on June 25th and i am not excited either. my friends whove already had them say that it hurts, you cant eat for a week, etc. and they make fun of me that i have to wear stupid braces for like 2 years. i wont be able to chew gum! and thats my addictiom haha. Report It
Reply:hell yes they hurt. they might look cool but when you get them all you can eat for a week is crappy mushy food. they hurt like hell. please enjoy your last few weeks braceless. good luck... you will need it
Reply:mostly on the 1st night and about 2 days after. they feel really awkward when they're done hurting, and you have to always check for food stuck between them. i have braces, and they're pretty cool, but no one notices anymore, because everyone @ my school has them. i don't see why they would impact your vacation, your mom has obviously never had braces.
Reply:Sometimes! Especially whe you get them tighten the first couple of times. i never had much pain with them though.
Reply:when you first get them on they hurt and monthly checkup tighteings hurt a little, for the first week you wont be able to chew anything, after that its fine, enjoy braces free vacation, youll soon forget what your teeth feel like.
Reply:every mouth it's different, they might hurt on you, and if they do take an aspirin or a tylenol, for me they don't hurt, just be careful and don't eat hard things and brush them carefully, if you have problems with them you should call your dentist, if you get some teeth out it will hurt like hell but you get past that, i spent like a month getting over that but i hope you don't need it.
good luck
Reply:Yes, they hurt A LOT when you first get them and when they get tightened. And don't believe your orthodontist about taking Advil or Tylenol to relieve your pain, it doesn't work.
Reply:they didnt hurt getting them on it was soar a couple days after. i take the kind of pain better than most ppl this is my second time having braces didnt wear my retainer. it does hurt a little bit to get your braces tightned mostly the pain is pressure but dont be scared just make sure to eat soft things after you appointments. good luck!!!
Reply:They will hurt for the first few days, because of the new pressure being applied to your teeth. Trust me though, it gets better.
Reply:They're not terribly comfortable, but they're definitely NOT the end of the world, either! You could try taking some kind of pain reliever about 1/2 hour before your dental appointments, just in case, and have lots of soft food on hand. Ice cream, yogurt, milkshakes-- fun stuff! : ) And remember to do all the things you normally do-- go to movies, ride your bike, hang out with friends-- I guarantee you'll forget all about your braces being uncomfortable! Good luck!
