Braces ?????

I got to have braces in a mounth

i was just wondering how they put them on you?

Braces ?????
my mom is a dentist.... it's really not that bad to have braces.... they will put a small rubber around your back teeth to make space for the braces. after about a week, that's how long it took mine, they remove the rubber and put in a metal band around your back teeth, then they put a special kind of glue on your teeth and the metal brackets. the wire will go through the brackets held by small bands, which will be connected to the back metal bands.

it hurts for the first few days, and everytime they have to make it tighter, but otherwise it's really not that bad.

eat jelly babies, it helps, but don't eat chappies or toffies, it brakes the braces off, and that is what hurts.

good luck!
Reply:If its the railway track ones they get glued onto each tooth and then wired together. Tis a bit painful at the beginning but I tell you know its worth it I would do it all again if i had to. good luck with it mate x x
Reply:Invisalign is the invisible way to straighten teeth using a series of custom-made, nearly undetectable plastic trays called aligners.

You may refer following link for more info on invisalign
Reply:Well first off, you have to get a model of your teeth. So they make this sort of Clay and ask you to bite on it. after about a week or two, they'll call you back to start "operating" on you. They'll put rubber bands In between your teeth. Which hurt like a MOTHER!! you won't be able to eat, speak or even laugh properly. after that is done, they apply some metal things on your wisdom teeth and then they start applying the Bonds ( metal things ) during this time, your mouth will be held open by some sort of container thing. after that, they add the wires, tighten your braces and then wha la! your done. Be weary, if you have a small mouth. Bring some Chapstick!! cause during the process they stretch out your mouth and it becomes uncomfortable. Chapstick will prove to be your best friend that day.
Reply:They put they big stretcher on you're lips to keep them seperate and open.

Then, they clean you're teeth and polish them.

Next, they have the brackets already on plastic trays and then they put cement on both the brackets and you're teeth.

Next they will stick the plastic trays on you're teeth and take a laser and laser stick them on.

After that, they scrape off the extra cement and plastic and will

stick on you're wire, trim it then tighten the wire.

Then go over how to have braces and what to do :)

Good luck!
Reply:Installing braces a really simple and painless procedure. It usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete.

First, they'll clean your teeth with a gritty, sandy substance. It doesn't taste like anything and they clean it off immediately.

Next, they'll put some vaseline on your lips and place a plastic mouthpiece in your mouth. It will retract your lips from your teeth and hold back your tongue so you don't touch your teeth with it while they're working. It doesn't hurt, but swallow to make sure its not pinching. Trust me, its not fun trying not to swallow for an hour because it hurts to!

They will take different sized bands (metal rings that go around your second molars. Spacers were placed about a week ago to make room for them) will be fitted.

This is when the brackets will be placed. They will put a chemical on the center of each tooth to help the bracket adhere. Then, the orthodontist will place a small amount of cement from a syringe onto the tooth. The bracket is then placed very carefully and the excess cement is wiped off. He or she will do this with every tooth up until your last premolar. The metal bands from earlier will be cemented in place. The cement doesn't dry until a special light is shone on them. The doctor will shine this light on every tooth for about 30 seconds. Then, a thin archwire will be fitted into the gruves of each bracket and secured by the metal bands. You then get to choose a color for your ligatures (little rubber bands that hold the wire in place around each bracket). Those are snapped around each bracket and you're done! One of the assistants will probably give you a mirror too see what you look like.

Your orthodontist will talk to you about your new braces, what you can and cannot eat, ect. Make sure he gives you floss threaders and wax because you will need them! Floss threaders will help you get floss under the wires and wax will create a barrier between your mouth and anything hurting you on your braces.

It won't start hurting for about an hour or so. Make sure you have soft food and pain medication in the house. You'll get used to them in a few days and the pain will stop. You'll see the most change in your teeth within the first few months :)

Remember to brush after every meal, to floss at least every night, and to rinse well. If a bracket comes loose, its not a big problem. Just call the office and see if you can set up an earlier appointment. Everything they put in your mouth has been tested and is safe, even to swallow (except the archwire!). Don't worry. Try to save the bracket if it falls off the wire.

If your orthodontist has you wear headgear or elastics, wear them as intructed! Patients who do so are more likely to finish their treatment early!

Good luck!

Braces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

I am getting braces! Who wants a blog?

Braces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
on a scale of 1-10, i would says the hurt factor is 5

i think the braces on the second day hurt the most. spacers hardly hurt

***u can get as many pattern of colors u want, but dont go more than 2

***pink and light blue are cute colors

***NEVER get white or clear bands cause white looks like food is stuck in ur braces and clear like it u eat ketchup or a lollipop or somethin, they stain

***they put the bands, and then every time u go back u get to choose new colors

k

i have gotton em on over 6 times (dont ask!)

it doesnt hurt dont worry-it is just a long process and it tastes kinda bad

they give u a band on ur molars fiist, to see ur size and stuff

first theu put this positioner thing is ur mouth, it makes your mouth stretch a lkot so they can see ur teeth, it will bother u for a minute or 2 but u will get used to it, u keep that thing on the WHOLE time

then there are these things that look like shots and stuff, i got really freaked out when i first saw them but actually, they dont go in ur mouth! this is the cement that they put on ur braces then they stick the braces on ur teeth

**the cement kinda tastes bad!

they do this the first time and every time u get them tightened:

they will put the rubber bands on ur braces with things that look like sisscors (they dont hurt) after that they put the wire-this is the most anoying part cause after they slip it in ur mouth, they have to cut it to make it fit right

then that is it!Ur done

but after u do it, ask ur doctor for dental wax, dental cotton balls, and rubber cover up

***each person is different i bleed a little on the first day and i put a few cotton balls in my mouth for like 3 minutes

when u get home use ACT mouthwash and for the first hour, ur teeth may be a little numb so drink mainly fluids-clear fluids

then for the first day or 2 ur teeth may be a little sensitive so stick with eating soup, pasta, pudding, jello, beans, yogurt, custard, fries, milkshakes, ice cream, and soft foods-avoid straws

every night use Peroxyl mouthwash for like a week to keep ur gums storng from cuts and use dental wax and rubber coverups so u wont get blisters, they hurt a little but arent that bad. avoid sleeping on ur side, try to keep ur head straight up for a couple of days

every morning and every night use the Peroxyl mouthwash again for 2 weeks then after that just use ACT mouthwash to keep ur teeth and gum s healthy. get some Super floss, made for braces-i sugest elictrical toothbrushes they keep ur mouth cleaner

dont worry-trust me- i have had my braces on for almost 4 years, i just got em off about two months ago-i luv my new smile!!!
Reply:There really not as bad as everyone says they are annoying at first but you get use to them very fast just dont miss any appoitments and they will be off before you know it
Reply:Damn I'm 16 and I haven't gotten braces yet. My parents are waiting for my younger sister's to have her last baby tooth fall out =[ I hope it's not that painful when I get them
Reply:See if this helps

Braces????

I think I should get braces soon, I am 12 but my dentist never says anything about it. All the kids at my school pretty much have them. I have lost all my teeth and they have pretty much grown in why wont they say anything? Any advise

Braces????
Err.. your dentist is blind get a second opinion. you could always get vanity braces to straighten your teeth.good luck!!
Reply:say something to them
Reply:why do you need them - i have them partly for cosmetic reasons (gaps) and also for a jaw problem
Reply:Mayve your teeth are god and don't need them. Be happy! Braces are NOT fun! But if you want to next time you go to the denist ask him about it.
Reply:They wait till the 12 year old molars come in. Good luck!!!
Reply:try talking to ur dentist but if he/she hasn't said anything u probally dont need them
Reply:You might have to approach them about this.

Ask them about braces and set up and a appointment.

I too always wondered this lol but yep asking them is all it takes.
Reply:ask your orthadontist. i'm getting mine next month
Reply:Ask your dentist about it at your next appointment and, if he/she says they think you don't need them, ask why and explain why you think you might. They should be able to answer your questions.
Reply:Are your teeth straight? Braces aren't a fad. They are used to correct a misalignment of your teeth and/or jaw. Consider yourself lucky if you don't need them.
Reply:mabe they don't know yet because some dentiese can only know from when you ask them and sometimes when your teeth has no space.
Reply:if they don't say anything you probably don't need them. if you think you really do ask them. just because lots of other people have them doesn't mean you have to have them.
Reply:You usually get braces when you are 7. Meaning that you might not need them. Or ask your dentist. If he knew you were wondering he could help.
Reply:Your doctor will tell you if

u need them and if u do then you'll go to an orthodontist and

he will look at ur teeth and decide when to put them on

just cuz everyboby has them doesnt mean u will

not everybody has braces you might not even need them and they hurt for the first week cuz i have them now
Reply:well if you NEED braces you should get them soon because the older you get the longer you have them on. well a dentist doesn't have anything to do with braces you have to go to a orthodontics. the orthodontics decides about the braces stuff. If you want, you can ask your dentist if you need them, but he wouldn't do anything about it since, a orthodontics is the person who decides.
Reply:well normally dentists don't mention that sort of thing because it is a choice and they don't want to make you feel obligated to spend that money.

my advice would be to ask your parents and then talk to your dentist about it.

if the dentist is not specialized in orthodontry, then they will recomend you to someone who is.

good luck!
Reply:i am 13 :) and i got braces when i was 10, when i was 11 they took them off, and in august they put them back on, i have always had straight teeth, but my mouth wouldnt close all the way.. :-| now it does..

They are probably not saying anything about your mouth or you needing braces, because you dont need them, are your teeth straight? or do you have gaps?

BTW.. go to an orthodontist, Not a dentist...
Reply:Why do you think you need them? I have braces and it really hurts. If you have a jaw or teeth you want moved, talk to your dentist about them. Also I've already had surgery on my mouth and may have to again, you probably don't want to go through this!
Reply:You should enjoy not having them they hurt sometimes and you cant always eat the food you want to but then again they will be really nice and straight at the end but don't wish you want them yet... they can be really annoying!

If you want ask you dentist but he probably knows what his doing
Reply:hey, i just got my braces off yesterday. next time you see your dentist ask him if your teeth look straight and growing in right. if or when you do get braces, follow everything they tell you. you dont want to waste any money. it doesnt hurt. the only time it hurt for me is when the tightened them one day. and getting them off is so fast and painless. but if your dentist says you dont need them. and you seriously think you need them. go to an orthodontist and get his advice. ph yeah and if you do get braces get them while your young!!! trust me.
Reply:With that I'm not sure. I chose myself that I wanted braces. (but the first orthodontist I went to gave me all sorts of weird contraptions.. trust me braces are better, %26amp; when its your choice... The names really can't bother you. Plus they have colored ones now! (at least the bands that hold the wires on)

Maybe your dentist rather you bring up the braces discussion,

Just check with the 'rents to be sure they can afford them.

Depending on the orto.. you may have tham on anywhere from 2-4 years. 9mine was 2.. but I also had to have 8 teeth yanked out of my head ALL at ONCE! (my wisdom teeth were growning in badly %26amp; I had to get 2 taken out off the top because my fangs could not grow down ()%26amp; the same 2 teeth were taken out at bottom)

So maybe they see something the ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT THE TRUE answer... is to ASK your dentist.

They would have to send you to an orthodentist for a consultation
Reply:i am 10 and i had braces in 2nd grade and getting them again
Reply:If your dentist has never said anything about it, you probably don't need braces!

If you do have a concern about your teeth (crowding, or crooked teeth etc.) express your concerns to your dentist the next time you go.

If the dentist agrees that you have a problem, they will refer you to an Orthodontist.
Reply:Next time you go to the dentist ask if he thinks braces are needed? Braces cost alot of money and are sometimes painful plus some kids have to have as many as 8 teeth removed to make space. And then they might wear the brackets for 12-18 months or more. Maybe you just have a wonderful natural smile? Enjoy it and remember " teeth are jewels not tools" so take good care of them.
Reply:If your dentist have not mentioned it. You may not need braces.
Reply:Go to an orthodontist. Ask him to take x-rays and molds of your mouth. He will tell you if you need them or not. No need to spend $5000 on something you don't need.
Reply:When you go to your dentist the next time or call the office to tell him you are interested in getting braces and if he/she can recommend someone in the area. That's what i did. and I'm in the process of improving my smile.

Braces????

can I eat Ice cream if I have braces because in the dentist the ist says no Ice

Braces????
Yes, of course you can eat ice cream. The dentist doesn't want you chewing on ice because it can damage the braces since it's hard and crunchy.
Reply:Yes you can...just be careful though....dont eat it too fast...you might experience some discomfort though, if your braces are heat sensitive. But you sure can eat ice cream. Hope that helps!!
Reply:Yes, just make sure you eat it slowly. Your dentist says no ice since there is pressure.
Reply:Absolutely, just don't bite into it or eat it real fast, your braces are super sensitive to temperatures.
Reply:y cant u the doctor also says no gum but a bunch of my friends do it anyway be careful how u eat it though
Reply:Yes ma'am, you sure can =D

Bon' appetite!
Reply:i no i have to go through it too . but find another food that u love. i really hate the limits the orthidontists set but i just think after this ill have a nice smile.even though its neccesary it really stinks but i do not think u should eat ice cream
Reply:yes, you can. i do it all the time. just dont eat too fast. braces are wierd like that :] just to be careful, you might want to brush your teeth afterward to make sure you dont get cavities.
Reply:agree with cutie. the ortho says no ice cause youd have to bite it and you might loosen or lose a brakect. They didnt tell me i couldnt eat ice cream
Reply:Yes, of course you can eat ice cream. You just have to be careful of ice cream with big chunks of hard things, like nuts or hard chocolate pieces.

As difficult as it seems, until you have had your braces for a while (like about a year), and you have gotten the hang of wearing them, please stick to ice cream flavors that don't have chunks.

Braces!!??!!?

ok my braces are like killing me and i was wondering if there was any meds other than motion or teyol that can help?

Braces!!??!!?
It really depends when you got your braces on, if it was less than 2 weeks ago then sorry but thats normal, you've just got to grin and bear it until it stops. If you've had braces for a while then it's probably best to make an appointment with your orthodontist. In the meantime, ice cream really helps (no kidding, its perfect for soothing your mouth, I've had experience!!) and also just take lots of Advil or Nurofen, any pain killer really. Hot drinks like tea and coffee also help sooth your mouth.

I hope you feel better, don't worry, they won't be on forever xx
Reply:I would report this to your Dentist, because the bracer maybe too small or your teeth may have straightened out a little causing tension.
Reply:usually if they start hurting, it wears off within 1-2 days (I've had braces twice now). But it can do this many times, especially when you go back to get them tightened. I use Advil and sometimes drink some hot tea to take my mind off the pain. The tea works pretty well, but you have to be relaxed and just think about the taste. Good luck.
Reply:Not unless it's prescription. Just make sure to keep the meds in your system every 4 hours or as stated on the bottle.
Reply:take some pain killers you will only have the pain for a few days not long
Reply:call your densit i had the same problem they gave me medicine but you might need to go in just to have them look at it! hope you feel better!
Reply:well i currently have braces, and the first 3 days are usually are supposed to be killer. it'll go away and your teeth will get used to it. but if they still do after a while, tell your dentist. he will be able to help.
Reply:just take advil, they will kill for a few days, but sadly all you can really do is just not think about it, and try to do things to distract your from your pain.
Reply:Some advice is before you go to the ortho to get your braces adjusted take motrin before. Wax on the brackets help not to tear up the inside of your lips and putting oral gel on your gums also help.

Braces???!??!?

i just got braces and i want to know if i will feel any pain or anything.

Braces???!??!?
i got my braces yesterday and im not in pain at all. about four hours after it started to hurt...but it wasnt unbearable, also it hurt when i woke up (i suggest taking advil, but i didnt cause it wasnt THAT severe). it hurt to play my saxophone during 2nd period band, if you play an instrument just tell your teacher-she'll understand (my teacher is evil....and even she understood). good luck, and im here for yah.
Reply:Yes I have braces and 4 about this week ur mouth is going to hurt so bad. But then u will not even b able to feel them use ur wax.
Reply:yup, give it time.
Reply:some people do.

some people don't

i got braces like 6 monthes ago.

and when i got mine they hurt really bad.

but then 2 weeks ago my best friend got hers.

and they didn't hurt at all.

it all depends.
Reply:Oh yeah. It will set in pretty soon.
Reply:No,no,no,no,NO!! u will not....ur mouth will be sore for a day...but it doesn't hurt..i have em..and still got em.
Reply:omg you will get alot of pain if your teeth are really crooked i had crooked teath and i got really good results!! ITS WORTH IT!! PAin is beauty!!
Reply:Well when you get them on they will feel oquard and will not be normal to you... but after a little while they begin to set in.. Trust me... i have had braces for like 18 months now and i am excited to go and see my ortho person because suposedly this time i get my impressions which means that i get these braces off in a month or so

YEAH ME!!

PS ADVIL HELPS ALOT
Reply:I have braces, and I have had them for almost a year. They might hurt when you first get them on. If you ever get a power-chain or a spring put in with your braces to help a problem like a gap in your teeth, then they might hurt the first week you have them. Your teeth will get used to them, and you will learn quickly what pops a bracket off. When you brush your teeth, turn your toothbrush AWAY from your gum, that way you won't irritate your gum. When you get your braces changed it might hurt if they put a heavier chain on your braces. Usually the only pain you will feel is maybe a little like a pimple on the inside of your mouth, from where the wire has dug into your gum. That is why the dentist gives you wax. Remember, the less times you have a problem with your braces, the sooner you will get them off.

Have a nice day! Good luck with your braces. I hope I helped!
Reply:i wish i could ask a question like this...when i got mine it hurt as they were putting them on and were hurting like crazy before i even walked out the door to leave.

Braces????

i got my braces last friday and they're still sore. how long will it be till i can eat the foods i want to? my aunt thinks they're sore still cuz i haven't tried to eat wit them. is that why?

Braces????
NO but it will help when i got braces i was sore 4 like4 or 5 days and even when Ur not sore it will come back every now and then but eating will help a little
Reply:the braces will be sore for the first few days as your teeth start adjusting. eating has nothing to do with it.....but do follow your orthodontist's recommendation on what to eat (i.e., stay away from sticky foods).

keep in mind that your teeth will be sore for a day or two each time the orthodontist adjusts them
Reply:i have had braces before, and at first they will hurt, sometimes a lot and sometimes not very much. your aunt is right to a certain degree. you have to slowly get used to eating your normal foods again. try with things that are soft like cooked carrots or jello, then work your way up to your normal food.

but if it is still hurting for a while after, then you should get your braces checked out to make sure nothing is wrong.
Reply:Your mouth will hurt for awhile it will probably last for a week, then its gone It will always hurt everytime they tighten your teeth so its best that you eat soups and drink water.
Reply:your teeth will be sore for about a 2 weeks or so depending on all what you got on. Try eating soft foods like mashed potatoes, pudding, jello, ect. chewing sugarless gum will help the most. try not to eat chips or anything else crunchy because it will take the braces off. if you do break it up. so yeah there sore now but it will go away sooner the more you try to eat. have fun......braces arent really that bad, they pay off...
